Rostislav was born in 1917 in Polotsk (the Russian empire). In 1925 moved to Leningrad, in 1936 entered architectural department of Leningrad Institute of art, sculpture and architecture. In 1949 was accepted in Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists, was teaching in Muhina Artistic Institute. Was drawing still life, portraits, landscapes and others.

There is a characteristic feature to use approach of decorative art with sharp contours and deep colors. His paintings are situated in museums and private collections in Russia, France, Germany, USA, Italy, Japan and others.

Passed away in 2000.
